In his conference, Germain
Viatte, director of the museological project of the Museum Quai
Branly, presented the history of this project and the options chosen
by the team, which drew together conservators (coming mainly from
the two institutions over which the Museum was founded, namely the
Museé de l’Homme and the National Museum of Africa
and Oceania’s arts), computer programmers and architects (workshop
Jean Nouvel). He emphasizes the work carried out in the collections
(the numeration of the archives and a complete informatization process
of the holdings), the decisions made for the presentation of the
pieces (proving the plastic qualities and multimedia information
over the contexts), as well as those made by Jean Nouvel. He also
puts an emphasis on the cultural action (Lévi-Strauss’
theater and exhibitions) and the collaboration of the Research and
Teaching sectors, including the Mediatec.
